At LIMAB UK, we understand the vital role that in-process near-infrared (NIR) moisture measurement plays for companies processing all types of materials. Particularly when they are producing food products or processing industrial bulk materials such as powders, woodchips, or other materials. In addition to measuring moisture, NIR moisture gauges can accurately measure materials that absorb near-infrared light and are suitable for measuring oil, fat and protein content. NIR gauges are also able to measure the coating thickness or coatweight of coatings that are being applied to a substrate material.
By working with industry-leading suppliers, we can offer premium quality products providing you with the most cost-effective NIR measurement solutions. With many years of experience and a proven track record of working with companies similar to yours, we can help you identify the most suitable product for your particular needs. Once the equipment is on-site, we can also provide commissioning and training, as well as ongoing support packages.
NIR in the Food Processing Industry
For the food processing industry, we offer two product lines, the Series 9 NIR gauge for online continuous process monitoring and the InfraLab Series 9 NIR Food Analyzer for at-line rapid sample inspection. All gauges are available in single-component, moisture only measurement or multiple component moisture fat/oil, protein and colour.
• Potato Chips/Crisps
• Coffee
• Biscuits
• Flour
• Confectionery
• Breakfast Cereals
• Snack Foods
For rapid testing and analysis of any type of raw meat, the InfraLab Series 9 Meat Analyzer will measure of fat, protein collagen and moisture content and record measurement data.
NIR for Bulk Materials
For bulk materials, we offer two product lines, the Series 9 NIR gauge and the PrediktIR II for online continuous process monitoring of moisture. These gauges are often used in the Building Materials sector.
• Powders
• Bulk materials, sand, cement
• Clay for brick manufacturing
• Biomass, woodchip, pellets
NIR in the Paper & Converting Industry
For the paper and converting industry, we offer two product lines, the Series 9 NIR gauge and the PrediktIR II NIR gauges configured for coat weight measurement. These gauging solutions will provide continuous, reliable and accurate method for measuring the thickness or coat-weight of many types of coatings (including hot melt adhesives, water-based pigmented coatings, wax coatings, polymer coating on paper, vinyl, PVC coating and adhesives) that are applied to many types of substrate materials (including textiles, metal, polymer films and papers).
What Is Non-Contact NIR Measurement Technology?
NIR spectroscopy is a non-destructive analytical technique to analyse the composition of substances based on their interaction with near-infrared light. It relies on the principle that molecules absorb and scatter light at specific wavelengths in the near-infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum, which spans from approximately 0.78 to 2.5 microns(µm).
This region of the spectrum contains lower-energy photons compared to visible light but higher-energy photons compared to mid-infrared and far-infrared radiation.
