Colour Measurement
The Series 9 Food Moisture Gauge has the capability to provide repeatable, numeric colour readings simultaneously with other critical constituent measurements such as moisture, fat/oil, and protein, which when combined can be confidently used as part of a process control strategy to deliver consistent product quality every time. The Series 9 is the only on-line measurement gauge on the market with this unique colour measurement feature.
Multiple User Interfaces to Suit Every Situation
Several types of gauge displays are available to meet the needs of different customer requirements, all are equipped with a modern high resolution 10” colour, touch screen interface with intuitive, easy-to-use software. The simple, lower-cost Operator Terminal (OT) provides a large, easy to read display of measurement and basic gauge functions. The sophisticated Gauge Control Interface (GCI) can manage networks of multiple gauges, providing advanced configuration, data storage/trending and diagnostic functionality. An optional ruggedized, portable tablet with embedded software for managing multiple gauges with a convenient wireless connection to the gauges is also available.
Connectivity and Industrial Interfaces
The Series 9 Food Moisture Gauge can be easily incorporated into any new or existing process using its digital I/O and networking options. Up to 16 gauges can easily be networked (daisy-chained) and connected to existing PLC or SCADA systems using a number of industry-standard protocols including EthernetIP, ProfinetIO, ModbusTCP, DeviceNet and ProfibusDP. In addition, eight digital I/O and analogue outputs are also available.
Accessories and Options
A full range of accessories and options are available to simplify installation and to ensure that the system is correctly specified for dependable and reliable operation for specific applications. In the food industry, the gauge is often mounted at the exit of ovens or fryers, which means a high ambient operating temperature. This is where air or water cooling options are essential. Other options include adjustable mounting brackets, cabling options, gating for measurement of discontinuous products (such as biscuits), powder vision for measuring powders in ducts, measurement beam size, product temperature sensing and special product viewing ports.
Lowest Cost of Ownership
Long-term stability combined with industry best performance, low installation costs and no routine maintenance requirements guarantee the lowest cost of ownership over many years of service.
Operating Principle
The Series 9 NIR Food Moisture Gauge measurement sensor works on the principle that moisture molecules within the product being measured discretely absorb a certain wavelength of infrared (IR) light. By pulsing light at these wavelengths onto the product and then capturing and measuring the reflected unabsorbed light on a light-sensitive detector, it is possible to determine exactly by how much each wavelength is being absorbed. Using advanced process algorithms and high-speed signal processing, it is possible to provide a direct moisture measurement for any given material that is presented. The measurement is unaffected by changes in process conditions such as particle size, product height temperature, ambient lighting and relative humidity changes.
