Series 9 Industrial Moisture Gauge

On-line Near Infrared (NIR) Moisture Gauge for Industrial Applications

The Series 9 NIR Industrial Moisture Gauge is the latest generation sensor for precise on-line measurement of moisture for almost any material using patented non-contact technology. The gauge is suitable for continuous monitoring of moisture for all types of materials including powders, coarse or fine particles, concentrates, slurries, pastes, flakes and granules. The ultra-accurate device provides continuous, dependable measurements that can be relied upon for automated process control of industrial applications to improve the product quality and plant efficiency. The gauge is ‘fit for purpose’ for use even in the harshest industrial applications. Being constructed from 316L stainless steel protected to IP67 and fitted with a tough sapphire window with built-in air purge protection, it is suitable for use in ATEX zone 20 environments.

LIMAB UK Ltd help our customers to streamline process efficiency, minimise waste and optimise product quality with the implementation of our non-contact moisture measurement systems such as the Series 9 Food Moisture Gauge.

Connectivity and Industrial Interfaces

The Series 9 NIR Industrial Moisture Gauge can be easily incorporated into any new or existing process using its digital I/O and networking options. Up to 16 gauges can easily be networked (daisy-chained) and connected to an existing PLC or SCADA systems using a number of industry-standard protocols including EthernetIP, ProfinetIO, ModbusTCP, DeviceNet and ProfibusDP. In addition, eight digital I/O and analogue outputs are also available.

Accessories and Options

A full range of accessories and options are available to simplify installation and to ensure that the system is correctly specified for dependable and reliable operation for specific applications. Options include air or water cooling/heating, adjustable mounting brackets, cabling options, gating for measurement of discontinuous products, powder vision for measuring powders in ducts, measurement beam size, product temperature sensing and special product viewing ports

Lowest Cost of Ownership

Long-term stability combined with industry best performance, low installation costs and no routine maintenance requirements guarantee the lowest cost of ownership over many years of service.

Operating Principle

The Series 9 Industrial Moisture Gauge measurement sensor works on the principle that moisture molecules within the product being measured discretely absorb a certain wavelength of infrared (IR) light. By pulsing light at these wavelengths onto the product and then capturing and measuring the reflected unabsorbed light on a light-sensitive detector, it possible to determine exactly by how much each wavelength is being absorbed.  Using advanced process algorithms and high-speed signal processing, it is possible to provide a direct moisture measurement for any given material that is presented. The measurement is unaffected by changes in process conditions such as particle size, product height temperature, ambient lighting and relative humidity changes.

Colour Measurement

An additional feature of the Series 9 goes even further to aid production efficiency and product perfection. The latest Series 9 can identify a shift in colour within a split second which can allow any contamination causing discolouration such as limestone to be removed before any further wastage occurs. Limestone can cause a range of faults within the production of bricks and tiles for example that reduce quality and strength so the need to quickly identify possible faults to eradicate wastage is vital to all production managers.
