Precigrader

Sawmill Timber Strength Grading

The Precigrader is a reliable and proven system that provides precise machine timber strength grading up to production rates of 260 boards per minute. The technology uses direct measurement through acoustic technology with a unique electronically controlled hammer and provides an accurate determination of the E-modulus and density of wood. The Precigrader has strength grading approval to EN14081 for UK and Irish grown green and dry UK Spruce (Sitka Spruce and Norway Spruce) for grades C16, C18, C24, C27, C40 and TR26.

Operating Principle

Each piece of timber is hit with an electronically controller hammer, the vibration response is picked up by microphones positioned close to the timber end. The resultant resonance frequency and timber density are processed and using established properties resonance frequencies the dynamic E-modulus (MOE) is established. The dynamic MOE correlates to the static stiffness and strength and is used for grading in the predefined classes.

  • Strength grading of green sawn timber
  • Strength grading of dry sawn timber
  • Strength grading of timber in planer mills

Proven system

Developed by Dynalyse in Sweden the system is installed in over 140 sawmills, planer mills and glulam factories. The system is proven to reliable and uses modern and robust technology.
